Creating a World That Works for All

BK Community Usage Tips and Civility

USAGE TIPS
Profile and Check-in - The first thing you might want to do is fill out our profile a bit more so others can get to know you. You'll notice sections on your "My Page" profile for text (tell us more about yourself), Comment Wall, My Videos, My Images, and Latest Zctivity. You can arrange these in order for preference by dragging and dropping the sections as desired.

Converse - If you want to join an existing conversation or start a new one, you can visit the blogs, conversations, or groups sections (top tabs and right column) to comment on conversation already in progress or begin a new one. A group allows you to hold many simultaneous conversations around a broad topic. If you just want to share what's on your mind during your visit, leave a message under "What's on Your Mind?" on the upper left hand corner of the home page. Or if you would rather chat in a live session with others on the site, click the "Who Else is Online?" in the same "What's on Your Mind?" section, or click the chat box on the lower right hand corner of the all BKcommunity pages.

Privacy - Set your privacy preferences in the "Settings" area in the upper right hand corner of every page. There are sections for email, visability, blogs, moderation, latest activity, and more.

Events- You may also want to let others know about your upcoming events. Typical events include author speaking engagements, BK Author Day lunch presentations, BK Author Cooperative workshops and retreats, and other BK stakeholder events.

Photos and Videos - Feel free to post a photo or a video. You can also group your photos in an album. Current albums include two BK author retreats, BK Author Day lunch presentations, and a BK staff holiday party. We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you on BKcommunity.

CIVILITY
Respect - Berrett-Koehler strongly encourages respectful authentic conversations from people with wide-ranging beliefs about how to create a world that works for all. Please do not berate other community members for their views. Being hard on the issues but soft on the people creates meaningful and productive dialogue that works for all.

Language - Berrett-Koehler discourages the use of slurs and profanity in its publications, on its website, or in any of its marketing materials. Offending terms should be eliminated, or paraphrased, or excised by use of ellipses. The Publisher reserves the right to remove user-generated slurs and profanity from its website or other digital community building platforms.

Materials Usage by Berrett-Koehler - All material posted by members in blogs and elsewhere is the property of the creator. However, Berrett-Koehler reserves the right, with proper attribution, to use, reproduce, and display the contents without claim of ownership.
