Creating a World That Works for All

"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."  -Gandhi

This quote from Mahatma Gandhi has long been one of my favorites, and I very much believe that Berrett-Koehler's mission of 'Creating a World That Works for All' should and does apply to our furry and feathered friends, as well. I am a life-long lover of animals, and ever since I have been conscious of doing good and serving my community, I have been involved with various dog rescue organizations.

Here in San Francisco, I am an active volunteer with Muttville Senior Dog Rescue. Muttville's mission is to change the way the world thinks about and treats older dogs and to create better lives for senior dogs through rescue, foster, adoption, and hospice.

To gain a better understanding of Muttville, it's founder, and -- of course -- the pups, I recommend taking a moment to watch this video.

Of course, Muttville is far from the only animal rescue organization. If you're actively working to make a difference in the lives of animals, or know somebody else who is, please use this space to share your experiences with the community.

Bonnie - I predict it won't be long before you have a little doggie of your own. You are a dog person like we are. We raised a guide dog from the San-Rafael based Guide Dogs for the Blind a few years ago and it was a very rewarding experience. Ultimately our little dog Marigold did not pass her rigorous guide dog training but she is now happy on a farm in the California central valley.
Oh my God! This puppy is ridiculous -- and it's sitting in a cooler! Look at the size of that tongue! This is a rather decadent puppy and I must have it for my palace.
I know! He has little wet spots on his fur! It kills me.
